Press Briefing
International Conference on Community-based Empowerment of Vulnerable Children

Press Briefing Notes::
  Helping Hand for Relief and Development is organizing a 2 days International Conference on Community-based Empowerment of Vulnerable Children on 22nd and 23rd November. The main objective of this conference is to empower the most vulnerable children with the help of local community. People from different sectors of life like professors, people from social sectors are participating in the conference. Participants will present their papers whereas specialists from social sector will present those models for vulnerable children which will become useful in our society. Country Director HHRD Fazal-Ur-Rehman enlightened journalists in press briefing that children are deprived of their fundamental rights both locally and internationally. The efforts to protect the vulnerable children are not only insufficient in the present scenario but it also needs more betterments. Lack of Education is a threat to those children's future which is keeps on increasing. More than 25 million are children are unable to get education in Pakistan.

The ratio of admission in Secondary schools is only 23% nationwide. Whereas it was mentioned in 18th amendments that state will provide free education to children of age 5 to 16.

Another face of 18th amendment is that according to this amendment, social and educational ministry is transferring to provinces.

Despite this fact, still social and educational ministry is handling all the child related issues. Government is not creating any schedule to help those children.  Provinces are completely failed to show any infrastructure regarding this serious issue.

 Keeping this all situation in mind, Helping Hand is adopting a new approach. We decided to conduct an international conference in Islamabad and we set a target to protect children of age 5 to 12 years in which experts from Kenya, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Turkey and some other countries will participate and will present their papers.

It is call of time to understand the hazards concerning children. Thousands of children are dropped from schools due to many reasons. How to send them back to schools?  Government does not have any schedule to tackle the current situation. Another big issue is about their health. We should empower Handicapped or special children and orphans also.

200 participants will be participating in this conference and they will try to find some better solutions to empower the most vulnerable children with the help of community.

A Global Conference
HHRD wants to explore the 'Community-based Empowerment of Vulnerable Children' (ICCEVC) approach for addressing the child vulnerabilities and will be facilitating research and development on this topic broader enough to encircle the problems faced by children of different social groups in Pakistan.
